Caribbean Halloween - a 7 year old perspective

Halloween on the Virgin Islands is fun, but different.

School Celebrations

This is the parade

It was different this year because

everyone got to dress up for the whole day and we all saw each others halloween costumes at a parade at school. My favorite costume was a muscle man with a barbell. We had games in the Great Room like pumpkin hockey and pumpkin bowling. At the end of the school day, we went to a haunted house (that the 5th graders put together) that was really scary. The part that scared me the most was in the beginning where a clown came very close to us out of nowhere - someone in my class screamed the whole time!

Trick or Treating

Trick or Treating is very different here.

We went to Mongoose Junction (where most of the stores are on the island) and went to each store to get a treat. The most interesting thing they handed out was sour patch kids. Then, we went across the street to Trunk-or-Treating (instead of going to peoples houses). This is where cars line up and give out treats from their trunk. We decorated the back of our car in a spooky theme and handed out over 10 bags of candy! We got a lot of compliments on our spooky car, but my favorite was a Jurassic park themed car that gave out a handful of candy.

What I loved, What I missed

I love that you could see all of your friends all in one place, take shorter walks and get more candy. I missed going around to peoples houses in the dark (which makes Halloween more spooky) and seeing all of the crazy decorations.
